This is making me so upset. I got in touch with school last week and they were still waiting on the council for information. The school sent out a mass message today saying that anyone who feels they need help with food over the holidays should email them for a food parcel. I asked school if this was the same as the free school meal vouchers Marcus Rashford campaigned for, but they were really disingenuous, re stating that the council has given them funding to provide food parcels for any family in need, and they haven’t received any information about vouchers specifically for free school meal children. So I’m assuming that this is their version of the vouchers. I’m very worried though. Every family is so different, how can they know what will be useful to us. I have a very picky 5 yr old and a a 2 yr old with a milk allergy. And it’s for two weeks so there obviously isn’t going to be much fresh fruit and veg. When I asked if I could carry it home walking, they said it would be heavy as it will have a lot of tins. So I dread to think what will be in there. I don’t know why they can’t just do the £15 a week voucher that other councils/schools are doing. At least then I could buy food the children will actually eat. Again, it’s the assumption that people in poverty should just be grateful for what they are given (no matter what it is) - beggars can’t be choosers.
