Well approximately £100 out of pocket later, it turns out the belt and pulley system wasn't the issue, so I still haven't resolved the problem with my tumble dryer. I'm annoyed because I've wasted money I could have put towards a new dryer. Yes, I could have employed a repairer, but they would have charged for parts, labour and VAT and I couldn't afford that. Still at least I now know how to disassemble and reassemble a tumble dryer, I guess. Useful knowledge gained. But I don't think I'll be repeating the experience in a hurry. Thank goodness for a washing line and good weather. But having a neurological illness means I struggle pegging clothes on the line, so a tumble dryer is an essential piece of equipment for me. Yes I could put the purchase of a new one on a credit card, but that perpetuates the cycle of indebtedness that I've been desperately trying to escape. And yes I could buy second hand, but I am wary especially as tumble driers are known to catch fire.
