Surprised to receive a cheque to the value of £25 in the post from my local council's Household Support Fund to go towards the increased cost of food, energy & water bills. The fund is the Governments response to the extra costs incurred by those on the lowest incomes. Whilst it is very welcome, it comes as cold comfort in face of the over 10 years of austerity, benefit caps, freezes & the cut to the £20 per week Universal Credit uplift, which those on legacy benefits have still not benefitted from.
