I went through the automation process of making the payment and got transferred to the credit card hardship department automatically. I wasn’t expecting that and guessed I couldn’t put it off any longer. They assessed my income and expenditure and agreed I was operating on -£400 per month basis. With this in mind they said that as I would be unable to afford the payment, I made. They agreed to refund my payment and look to close my account when I have paid the outstanding balance at a £1 per month. That has taken off quite a bit of my anxiety. I just wish I had this conversation with my other credit card company too before I paid them.
