Q. How is everyone coping with the rise in energy costs this year?
Well it's a worry. I always shop around for my energy supplier to get the best deal but my energy company has gone bust along with several others, so the choice we used to have is shrinking & it looks like we are returning to the era of "The Big 6" again - who monopolised the energy markets. In the meantime, the lights have stayed on but I'm being transferred to another energy company - one not of my choosing. In the meantime with winter approaching, I am relying on the Cold Weather Payments of £25 that we on benefits receive when we have forecasted spell of cold weather (zero degrees lasting a consecutive 7 days). I am grateful for it, but why is it not triggered sooner rather than retrospectively. Furthermore, I am unable to apply for the Warm Home Discount scheme as yet as my account details have yet to be fully transferred over t the new supplier - hope they don't leave it too late to apply. In the meantime, my home is fully insulated to modern day standard, which I'm thankful for, but I simply don't put the heating on unless it's absolutely necessary, usually when my indoor temperature reaches 15 degrees C. & even then only for a couple of hours to take the chill off.
