Q. How has your children’s mental health been impacted by the pandemic?
I have worried about the mental health of my children. It is something that has become apparent both with the pandemic and our circumstances. At 11, my eldest child is very much aware of mortality, having lost his father 3 years ago. I have noticed the anxiety he has displayed around crowds of people. Recently we were at a park which was busier than usual. He mentioned how busy the playground was and chose mainly to hang at the periphery. With the reopening of the school, he has mentioned how uncomfortable he’s felt. There’s definitely a marked difference to a child who is normally very sociable and outgoing. I do think it will take time for these feelings to ease. I do hope these issues are addressed.
